Dascha Polanco Hits Back at Body Shamers

Melissa McCarthy is another advocate for body positivity as she has been relentlessly slated in the media for her weight and for being compared to other women.

“You don’t do that with guys,” said Melissa. “You don’t see two guys next to each other and somebody going, ‘Who’s got the better knees? Who’s got old knees?’ I want to get rid of constantly categorising. Lists give somebody a way to shove and tear down women.”

Thankfully, more and more celebrities are voicing their opinions about these body shamers and supporting body positivity. For example, female celebrities such as Amy Poehler and Reese Witherspoon have been supporting the #AskHerMore campaign in which they urge interviewers to ask celebrities different, thought-provoking questions rather than be focusing on what they are wearing.

Incidents like these prove that there are more serious issues to be dealing with in the world but a piece of fabric worn by two women is seen to be more important to discuss.

Hopefully, with the increase of celebrity endorsements for body positivity, the world will soon begin to view women and men as human beings rather than something to be objectified.
