He candidly revealed that he needs to prioritize his mental and physical health to continue doing what he loves for a long time. “The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write, but I’m very sorry to let you know I’m going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future,” Capaldi wrote in a statement.

“I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I’d hoped three weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.”

Tourette syndrome is a neurological disorder characterized by involuntary sounds and movements, known as tics. Capaldi first opened up about his diagnosis last September and has since been open about his struggles with the condition, documenting his journey in the Netflix documentary, “How I’m Feeling Now,” after being diagnosed with the disorder amid his rise to fame.

“It was terrifying to share it,” Capaldi told Variety in an April interview. “Even though I’m open and forthcoming online, it’s usually through quite a jovial lens.” Capaldi shared that he was relieved to have his symptoms diagnosed, but also acknowledged the challenges of managing the condition. He admitted that delving too deep into the details of Tourette’s could exacerbate his anxiety.

The impact of the disorder has not discouraged Capaldi from his musical pursuits, and he has won widespread acclaim and Grammy nominations for his work. However, he acknowledged that he is still learning to adjust to the effects of Tourette’s.

Capaldi was due to perform in Zurich, Switzerland on Wednesday. His current tour, which would include venues in Australia, South Korea and Iceland among others, was due to climax in the United Arab Emirates on October 7.
